Anti-lock braking system?

i'm thinking about buying a jeep cherokee classic. im not sure of the year but it's around a 95ish.i talked to the guy who's selling its son %26amp; he said it has some kind of weird braking system. it DOESNT have anti-lock breaks, but the other kind. he said that if you need to stop fast you will slide around %26amp; the breaks lock or something. i will be a first time driver [im 16] so should this be an issue? i'm clueless when it comes to cars obviously. any help is appreciated.

btw, i wont be on the high way much..its mainly for driving to school %26amp; work.|||It's fine to go without anti-lock brakes, mine don't work. Just remember that if you ever need to stop suddenly and your car starts sliding that you will need to pump your brakes, which just means that you need to let off the brakes and then step back down, repeatedly. The ABS (anti-lock brake system) does this for you, normally. It has never been problem for me, in fact I've been driving for 6 years and I don't think I've ever had a situation that would have required anti-lock brakes.

They're a good thing to have, but not necessary, if what I'm saying!|||Run away and buy something else. A guy that says the truck has weird brakes likely means the truck has BAD brakes. What are the "other kind" of weird brakes this vehicle has? You either have ABS or you don't. Dont buy it, keep looking for something else. At the very least, have the brakes inspected before giving him any money.|||anti lock breaks are a feature that in stead of u jaming on the breaks it pumps them so that ur brakes dont go on and stay on they go on and of till u stop but reguler old brakes u hit the brake petle and ur wheels will just lock and u could spin out of control i would recomend looking for a car with anti lock brakes for the simple reason that it dont mater if ur on the high way they can still lock when u hit the brakes to hard!|||anti lock breaks are best

you never know when your gonna slam on your brakes

they saved me about 5 times from being in a wreck

and i am 16 also|||maybe they are talking about abs system. if you go to brake it pulse's.if you brake hard or brake on ice (if you get snow )don't re-brake because it will be like braking again you reset it. so if you brake hard don't pump your brakes my trail blazer has that ,you will be okay.your 16 years old so that will be a good vehicle for you, an older one so if any dents then it's okay.
