What are the pros and cons of driving a vechicle that does not have anti-lock brakes? Is it dangerous?

I purchased a 2000 Ford explorer truck and was told that the anti-lock brake system on it was disabled. Is that hazardous to drive that way?|||pumping the brakes in a hard stop with no abs prevents lock ups if you lock the brakes you can't drive and need to put your license back in the crackerjack box. anyways your abs is probably inoperative due to a faulty sensor. they are not too expensive to fix. fords are notorious for simple abs fixes due to sensors. i have changed many.|||My car doesn't have ABS. 2 years ago, a guy U-turned in front of me. My tires locked and I couldn't turn the car out of the way. I always suggest having ABS, especially since you have an SUV. When slamming the brakes with ABS, you can actually maneuver the car out of the way, and it makes a significant difference when it comes to stopping distance. Which can make the difference from hitting another car, and not |||As long as the "normal" braking system is working perfectly it will be safe to drive the truck what you wont have is the added safety when the vehicle is in a skid situation where the ABS will give you much greater control of the skid and cut down the breaking distance|||Some of us don't want ABS brakes, because at times they can prevent accident avoidance.

Now if you are a novice or a sub-standard driver who thinks the only way to avoid a wreck is locking up the brakes and blowing a horn, worry about it.|||If your a good driver that has a good feel for the truck you will be fine. People who panic and lock up the breaks are the ones that need them.|||People drove vehicles without ABS systems for decades before it became available . The real problem is common sense. In bad conditions , drive with caution and allow enough room for safe stopping|||VERY DANGEROUS. IF YOURE BRAKES LOCK UP YOU HAVE NO STEERING AND YOU WILL GO STRAIGHT INTO WHAT YOU ARE TRYING TO AVOID.
