Is anti-lock braking system (ABS) safe for using on ice ?

Will the car spin on ice or snow if you are using a full brake with ABS ?|||In my experience, ABS is as safe or safer to use on ice compared to a car without ABS. But driving on ice is dangerous and ABS won't make it as safe as driving on a dry road.

You can read all day long about driving on snow and ice with and without ABS, but in my opinoin, the only way to know how a particular car will perform, and the best way to make it perform as well as possible, on the ice is to take it to an empty parking lot on a frozen day and practice. And by that I mean get the car sliding, spinning, etc. and try to recover until you get comfortable with it.|||All cars are unsafe on ice.

Cars with ABS are unsafe on ice. Cars without ABS are unsafe on ice.

That being said, cars with ABS are less unsafe on ice than cars without it. Although any car might spin, a car with ABS is less likely to spin than a car without it is. However, no car is safe on ice.|||Road hazards that will cause the ABS to function unexpectedly are gravel, sand, ice, snow, mud, railway tracks, potholes, manhole covers, and even road markings when it is raining but anything is possible.|||ABS will not work if you slam on the brakes on ice or snow really hard. Be gentle on the brakes and it helps. If you manage to lockup all 4 tires at once, ABS can't tell that you are still moving as no wheels are turning.|||ABS is meant to be used on the ice. So it is safe. It is designed to simulate pumping the brakes. That way, you do not lock up your wheels and lose control.|||you can use it, but it wont stop the car on ice
