Anti-lock/brake system problem on my 91 Jeep Briarwood.?

I have had my Jeep for a few years now. It is virtually low maintenance apart from my anti-lock/brake system problem.

The first occurence of this problem happened when the anti-lock light went on and stayed on. My mechanic suggested that I take it to the dealer. The dealer discovered that the brake accumulator was the culprit. Luckily for me, there was a recall on it, so it was taken care of; problem solved.

I then moved abroad for a few years and stored it for awhile. When I returned the anti-lock went back on, this time it was no recall! The dealer said some hose is out on the mechanism and needs to be replace; $600 (for a freakin' hose!, wtf?..LOL) later, problem solved.

Just this past week, I took in to have the brakes done/maintenance and my mechanic said it was fine but mentioned to have the dealer look at the anti-lock system again!

I cringe at the thought of taking it to the dealer. They are just going to charge me for some miniscule thing!|||Your stuck with the dealer on something like this. It was not a popular enough option to be profitable for independent shops to get the equipment required. Your best bet is to shop around the different Jeep dealers in your area.|||Does your system have a separate electric pump to charge the accumulator on the passenger side. Key on, engine off, pump the brake pedal continuously. Does a pump come on to charge the accumulator?

If any of above, you have the Bendix system. It,,not the accumulator or hoses, are guaranteed for life. Not positive on the 1991 when they changed over to newer system, but 1990 and back I am SURE!

PS I also lost the hose between the pump and master cylinder and it DID NOT COST $600!!!
